I had a nine-hour layover and found Lotus Nakara after a quick search. The room was clean, the shower was proper, and someone woke me up fifteen minutes before I needed to leave. Small things, but they made the connection a lot more manageable.

Arrived at 1 am from a delayed flight to Sydney, absolutely shattered. The night receptionist was calm, professional and didn't make me feel like an inconvenience. The room was ready, the tea was warm, and the shuttle next morning ran exactly on time. Would book again without hesitating.

Used the daytime room for about five hours between a morning domestic arrival and an evening connection to Kuala Lumpur. Good value for the price, the shower was excellent and the Wi-Fi was solid. A bit hard to find the entrance first time, but the team texted good directions when I called.

Came with my husband and young daughter for an overnight stay. They put us in a room with a large bed and made sure breakfast was ready by 5:30 am for our early departure. The house itself has a warmth that you don't find in normal airport hotels — the teak furniture, the quiet garden, the personal attention. Really pleased we chose this over a chain option near the terminal.

Booked the Long Layover Suite for myself, my wife and our two teenagers during a 20-hour connection. The sitting area gave everyone space to spread out, the meals were simple but exactly what you want after a long flight, and the team coordinated our onward transport without us having to remind anyone. Genuinely one of the better decisions of that trip.

Pleasant place, clean and quiet. I appreciated that nobody pressed me to check out before my flight — they worked around my schedule rather than the other way around. The bed was comfortable and the blackout curtains were very effective. My only note would be that the English on the information card in the room could be clearer, but staff were always available to help directly.

A few more stories

Stays that stood out

Case Study · Long Layover Suite

The situation

A family of four from New Zealand had an 18-hour overnight connection in Phuket during a school holiday trip to Europe. They arrived tired at 11 pm and needed a space where children could sleep and adults could rest without being separated by a standard double room.

What happened

The Long Layover Suite was prepared with extra bedding and a folding arrangement in the sitting area. Dinner was kept available on arrival and breakfast was ready before the family asked for it. The team tracked the morning flight and had the car waiting with 30 minutes to spare.

The outcome

All four boarded rested. The parents wrote later that the layover — something they'd dreaded planning — turned out to be genuinely restful.

Case Study · Overnight with Shuttle

The situation

A business traveller arriving from Frankfurt landed at 2 am with a 6 am connecting flight to a domestic destination. Too short for a full night's sleep in a distant hotel, too long to sit in the terminal.

What happened

Check-in took a few minutes. Blackout curtains meant three hours of solid sleep. A light breakfast was ready by 5:15 am and the shuttle had the guest at departures by 5:40 am — well ahead of the gate opening.

The outcome

The traveller arrived at the domestic destination rested and on time, and has since used Lotus Nakara on three further Phuket connections.

Case Study · Daytime Rest Room

The situation

Two colleagues travelling together had a seven-hour layover after an overnight flight from Europe and before a connecting flight to a dive destination in the south. Both needed to change, shower and catch a few hours of rest before a physically active afternoon.

What happened

The Daytime Rest Room was used for six hours. Both guests showered, slept for three hours and spent the remaining time with coffee on the veranda. Luggage was left at the desk on arrival and collected when they left.

The outcome

They boarded the afternoon flight refreshed rather than exhausted — which, by their account, made a real difference to the first day of the trip.
